THYROID CANCER

The thyroid is a gland present at the base of the throat near the windpipe. It is shaped like a butterfly, with a right and left lobe. A thin tissue connects the two lobes. The thyroid gland makes hormones that help to control heart rate, weight, blood pressure and body temperature.

Thyroid cancer occurs when abnormal cells begin to grow in the thyroid gland. You may notice a lump in your neck then you must go to a doctor. The doctor will examine and let you know that it is actually cancer or you are having some other health problem

Thyroid cancer is usually found before the cancer has spread far. This means that most people who are treated for thyroid cancer are healthy and sometimes even after it is treated thyroid cancer may come back, sometimes many years after treatment there is a chance to come back.

Thyroid cancers are of four types they are papillary, follicular, medullary, and anaplastic thyroid cancer. Papillary is the most common thyroid cancer. Anaplastic thyroid cancer is very difficult to cure with current treatment. Other types of thyroid cancer can usually be cured easily.

SYMPTOMS:

The symptoms of thyroid cancer are a lump or pain in the neck, sometimes pain in ears and neck, difficulty swallowing, constant wheezing, difficulty in breathing, cough that continues that is not related to cold, hoarseness which is not related to cold.
